Mary F. "Myrt" Knox

Mary F. “Myrt” Knox, 87, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Joe Bob Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the funeral home.

Born September 20, 1927 in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Robert L. and Gertrude M. (Utley) Erwin. While in high school she met her future husband, John Knox. The couple were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946, in Hillsboro. She later went to work for Hillsboro State Bank for 12 years before leaving to be with her children. After a few years, she went to work in the Hill County Tax Office and continued there for over 26 years. First and foremost in life she was a farmer’s wife, helping on the farm hauling cotton and doing other duties while also working at the courthouse.

An accomplished artist, Myrt exhibited many of her oil paintings. Old barns and bluebonnets were just a few of the things she loved to paint. She also enjoyed singing in choirs. She attended Trail To The Cross Cowboy Church in Hillsboro. Preceding her in death were her parents; infant daughter, Donna Frances Knox; brother, Robert L. Erwin, Jr.; and sister, Betty Jean Kunkel.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, John Knox of Hillsboro; two sons, David Knox and wife, Sherrie, of Hillsboro and Tom Knox and wife, Lucy, of Maypearl; six grandchildren, Brian Knox and wife, Amanda, of Decatur, Rebecca Billingsley and husband, Jason, of Red River, NM, Mandi Snider of Hillsboro, Robbie Knox of Denton, Jason Ahman and wife, Christie, of Murphy, and Chris Ahman and wife, Chasity, of Round Rock; nine great-grandchildren; and daughter by choice, Charlene Bonney, of Hillsboro.
