Mary Lander, 98, of Malone died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at West Rest Haven in West. Mary was born May 20, 1912 in San Saba County daughter of the late William Elzy and Sallie Wood Carroll. Mary's life spanned from the horse and buggy era to the rocket stage. She was raised a farm girl and was always a hard worker. During World War II, she was a Rosie the Riveter supporting the war effort working at Rohr Aircraft in California. In her forties, she opened Mary's Kream Kanteen in Fort Worth on the Mansfield highway, and it later grew into Mary's Restaurant- a working man's restaurant. For 53 years she took care of working people. In 1980 she retired to Malone. Not long after, she opened the Brown Jug Café there which she ran for several years. Also preceding her in death were four husbands, Owen Templeton, Max Malicoat, Amos Cotton, and Ed Zettler; daughter, Joyce M Dorries; infant son, Larry Thomas Templeton; adopted son, Mack Solsbery; and five siblings. Survivors include her husband, Adolph Lander of Malone; two children, Pattie L. Mitchell and husband, Doug, of Fort Worth and Clayton Solsbery and wife, Nelda, of Houston; two step-children, Lanet Klanika of Birome and Elvis Lander and wife, Bratt, of Malone; six grandchildren, Pam Johnson; Mike Anglin; Beau Anglin; Vicky Findel; Carrie Holleman; and Amy Dorries Sellwood; 12 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great grandchildren.
