Mary Ruth McKennon, 99, of Celina, Texas passed away Saturday November 17, 2018 in McKinney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday November 19, 2018 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to service time. Burial will be at Prairie Valley Cemetery.

Mary Ruth was born February 28, 1919 in Galveston, Texas the daughter of Elvis “Tack” and Rovena (Gant) Petty. She grew up in Prairie Valley where she lived most of her life. She married Joseph Milt Freeman September 4, 1937. They had four children and worked as farmers raising peanuts, cotton, watermelon and other crops on the Brazos River. Her husband Milt died in 1960 and Mary Ruth sold the farm and moved to Whitney. In 1963, she married Richard McKennon and he preceded her in death in 1988.

She obtained her LVN license soon after Milt’s death and worked full time as a nurse in area hospitals and nursing homes until retiring in her late 70's. Later she moved to the Dallas area near her daughter Mary where she spent the rest of her life.

Mary Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Dewayne Freeman; daughter, Glenda Freeman and grandson, Hunter Freeman.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law, James Milton and Suzette Freeman; daughter, Mary D’Azzo; grandchildren and spouses, Greg Freeman, Kyle and Morgan Freeman, Danielle and Daniel Durbin, Amber and Bryan Johnston, M. J. (Kaiba) Freeman; great grandchildren, Emilee Freeman, Sloane Durbin, Tessa Johnston and Amelia Johnston.
