Mary was the daughter of Frank and Ollie Ann Gehring Kenick. As a small child, she moved to Hope, New Mexico and lived there until she married Earl Murphy on October 6, 1942 in Artesia, New Mexico. After Mr. Murphy returned from military service, they settled near Artesia until moving to the Whitney area in 1946. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #8571, Lake Whitney Medical Center Auxiliary; and she served as President of the McCown Valley Senior Citizens Association. She was a dedicated teacher in Sunday School and looked forward each summer to teaching Vacation Bible School. She lived for the work of her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on August 13, 1992; an infant daughter, Brenda Horton in 1941; a brother, Joe Kenick; and sister, Viola Eskue. Mary is survived by two sons; Doug Murphy and wife, Lin of Whitney and John Murphy and wife, Clara of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Six grandchildren: John Murphy, Jr., Seana Murphy, Shari Sims, William Murphy, Kristi Bounds and Audy Murphy, and by ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
