Mary Arline Shirey, 87, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, August 20, 2007, at Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro. Arline Shirey was born October 23, 1919 in Camden, Arkansas the daughter of Mary Truesdale and Roy Smith. She graduated from Camden High School and attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. In 1940, Arline married Robert Wells Shirey, also of Camden. After her husband received his medical degree, the couple moved to Temple, Texas where Dr. Shirey interned at Scott & White Hospital. On December 22, 1942 they welcomed a daughter, Mary Ann. In 1953, the family moved to Hillsboro where they made their home. Arline was an active member of St. Mary?s Episcopal Church, serving on the altar guild and as a Sunday school teacher. Her love of flower arranging was seen in altar arrangements and decorating the church on festive occasions. For many years she served on the Diocesan Altar Guild in the Dallas Diocese. She was a member of Sesame Club and served as Jr. Sesame sponsor. She also was a member of the ladies Medical Auxiliary, Priscilla Club, and the Hillsboro Heritage League. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert, on September 26, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Roy F. Smith, of California; a granddaughter, Kay Maass Bailey; and a grandson, Robert Maass. Mrs. Shirey is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Maass and husband, James, of Bynum; granddaughter, Nancy Boden and husband, Dave, of Weatherford; and three great-grandsons; Josh Birdwell and Marshall Bailey both of Bynum and Matthew Boden of Weatherford.
