Mary Lou Thompson, 70, of Blum, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, surrounded by the comfort and love of her family. Born on October 8, 1954, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Lucile and Herman Braswell.
Mary was a devoted wife to Chuck Thompson, with whom she shared 29 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of love, family, and faith. Mary was incredibly proud to be a Coast Guard wife and dedicated much of her life to supporting Chuck's military career. She embraced the challenges of military life, from frequent moves to deployments, always standing by Chuck's side with unwavering love and strength. Her role as a Coast Guard wife was a source of deep pride for her, and she loved being part of that community, guiding their family through each transition with grace and resilience.
As a mother, Mary's pride and joy were her daughters: Stephanie Gober, married to Robert Gober, and Michelle Samperi. She also took great joy in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Robert Gober and his wife Sarah; Kelly Gober and her partner Hector Valencia, along with their son Eli; and Haley Gober and her partner Juan Castillo. Mary is also survived by her stepchildren: Hollie Gober and her children Jordan and his daughter, Evelyn, Kaitlin, and Kyle; Charles Thompson; Stacie Lewis and her children Mikayla and Mason; and Angela Richards and her children Daniel, Aiyanna, and Bentley.
Mary worked for Continental Airlines for close to 20 years, a career she loved. However, after marrying Chuck and becoming a mother to a blended family, she devoted herself entirely to raising their children and managing the household. Despite the frequent relocations and deployments, Mary always made a home filled with love and warmth wherever they were stationed.
In 2018, Chuck and Mary returned to Texas to be closer to their children. Shortly after, they found their forever home on 9 peaceful acres in Blum, Texas. Here, they lived out their dreams-raising chickens, growing their own food, tending to flowerbeds, and enjoying a simpler, joy-filled life. Mary found happiness in the little things: reading a good book, watching her chickens roam the yard, and preparing delicious meals for her family. She cherished attending her grandchildren's events, from cheering at football games to supporting their FFA projects, she hardly missed an event. Her presence at these moments was a testament to her unwavering love and support.
In her final days, Chuck was right by her side, spoiling her and caring for her every need, showing the depth of their love and commitment to one another. His devotion brought her great comfort and peace.
Mary's deep faith in God was the guiding force in her life. She loved the Lord and trusted Him fully, and her faith was inspiring. She was an active member of Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, Texas, and a dedicated volunteer at the Whitney food pantry, where she found great joy in helping her community. Her belief that God is always in control carried her through life's challenges, and she passed that faith on to her family.
As her daughter, I carry with me one of the most valuable lessons she taught: to never give up, no matter how difficult things may seem, because God is always there. (Stephanie Gober)
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing she is now HOME with the Father in Heaven. As it says in John 14:2, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." Her mansion was ready, and now she is resting in eternal peace, awaiting the day we will all be reunited.
Until we meet again, Mary, Mom, Grandma (her favorite title), we love you and will carry your memory in our hearts forever.
