Masqulene "Mac" Kelm

Our precious and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend Masqulene “Mac” Kelm, 92, formerly of Malone and Hubbard, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday afternoon July 5, 2020, at West Rest Haven Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2020, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Michael Nemec officiating.  Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery near Malone.  Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.  We request that you please wear face coverings to the visitation and funeral service. Funeral services for Mac will be live streamed on the Marshall & Marshall Facebook page.

Mac was born on May 30, 1928, in Hall County, Georgia, to Will W. and Willie Estell (Johnson) Jones.  At the age of 20, she met a young Army service man by the name of Sam Kelm of Malone, Texas, who was serving his country while stationed in Georgia.  After a few short months of dating, the couple married on November 6, 1948, and moved back to Sam’s hometown of Malone to start their life together.  They made many loving memories together for the next 39 years before Sam was called home to Heaven on February 18, 1988.

The epitome of a farmer’s wife, Mac worked many long hours by Sam’s side with daily farm chores.  She also worked outside the home, first at Cause, Inc. in Hillsboro, then for Headstart in Hubbard, cooked and delivered for Meals on Wheels in Hubbard, and finally retired from the Senior Citizen Center in Hubbard as director after 20 years.

She was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.  Mac read her Bible and prayed for her family and friends daily.  The most wonderful cook there was, her family always looked forward to Sunday or holiday meals where there was always a big spread of wonderful food.  In her spare time, she loved gardening, canning, fishing, hand quilting, and doing word search puzzles.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Barbara Padgett; son, Billy Kelm; brother, Tex Jones; sister, Gertrude “Trudy” Elliott; three grandchildren, Jimmy Neal and Kelm twin girls; and two sons-in-law, Ronnie Adams and Denny Padgett.

Survivors include her children, Retha Adams of Aquilla, Joyce Canales and husband, Robert, of Kyle, Danny Kelm and wife, Avalon, of Bynum, Sammy Kelm and wife, Donna, of Arlington, and Wanda Pustejovsky and husband, Charlie, of Abbott; siblings, Thay Jones and wife, Janice, Clara “Nell” Fuller and husband, Willard, Thelma Helton, and Ruth Martin and husband, Lyman, all of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 915 Corsicana Hwy., Hillsboro, TX 76645.
