Maurice Craig, 82, of Hillsboro died Monday, January 1, 2007, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Maurice was born July 4, 1924 in Emmett, Texas the son of George and Margaret Johnson Craig. He grew up in Irene and attended school there. On March 10, 1943 he joined the United States Army and served during WWII, serving with the 398th Army Engineers in England, France, and Germany. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946. On June 12, 1948 he married Frances Johnson and they made their home in Hillsboro. He was employed with Independent Oil Company for many years and was also employed with Hill County Precinct 4, retiring in 1991. For over fifty years, he was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro where he served as a past chairman of the Administration Board and the Lords Acre Committee. He was also a member of the Model A Club of Fort Worth and enjoyed driving his car in parades and Model A tours, winning many trophies. Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Frances Nixon; and a brother-in-law, Archie Nixon. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Frances Craig of Hillsboro and several cousins.
