Mauricio Abrego, Jr.

Mauricio Abrego Jr., was born on October 27, 1946 in Taft, Texas to Mauricio and Consuelo Abrego. He died on November 7, 2023 at the age of 77 years old. As the eldest of 6 children, he was primarily raised in Taft, Tx, but he traveled with his family as farmworkers throughout Texas and Oklahoma. The family settled in Hillsboro, Texas in 1965.

Mauricio married Rebeca Vicencio on May 5, 1971, and together they raised 3 daughters. He last worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Hillsboro where he retired in 2008 after 25 years of service. Mauricio was baptized on May 20, 2023, in the Apostolic Faith.

He loved camping, fishing, dancing, playing poker, spending time with his family, and watching his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Mauricio was the symbol of patience, kindness, and understanding. He had a way of bringing peace and calmness to any situation. His heart was pure as gold, and he was always willing to help out anyone that he knew needed help.

Mauricio is preceded in death by his daughter, Janie Vicencio; his parents, Mauricio and Consuelo Abrego; and his brother, Joe Abrego.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebeca Abrego; daughters, Danelle and husband Christopher Sellers, and Palmira Abrego and significant other Rusty Cook; grandchildren, Tyler Lewis, Kaylon Lewis, Hannah Sellers, Joanna Lewis, Luis Amaya, and Albert Sellers; great-grandchildren, Daisy, Cope, and Emberly; 3 brothers; 1 sister; in-laws; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mauricio was loved by everyone and will be dearly missed. He was known to many as Wicho, Jr., or Manzano, but will always be best remembered as Guelo or Jefe.
