Maxine Scotty Skocdopole Cason, 85, of Hillsboro passed away June 25, 2008 in Hillsboro. She was born April 15, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota the daughter of Frederick Leonard Skocdopole and Alma Olsen Skocdopole, who both preceded her in death. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1944. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi serving as chapter president her senior year. In 1945 she moved to New York City where she met her husband, Dr. Dick Cason. They were married in 1946. The family moved to Hillsboro in 1949 where they were life long residents. She and her husband Dick were married for 60 years he preceded her in death in October 2006. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro. She was a dedicated church volunteer serving as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. She and her husband Dick were extremely active in all facets of the community. She was part of the group that first established the Philotechnos kindergarten in 1951. Hill Junior College had a lapse of 16 years in its existence. She helped reestablish Hill Junior College and served as a Board Member from 1962 until 1991. She organized and served for 20 years as the Chairman of the Bond's Alley Arts and Craft show and Christmas Bazaar. The community honored her for her 20 years of service to that organization. The Art Show benefited the Hillsboro Library where she was also a board member. She was Republican County Chairman for a number of years and held numerous Republican primaries in her garage in those years. She and her husband Dick were fortunate to have attended a Republican inauguration. She truly loved God, her church, her family and her community. Survivors include a son, Dick Cason and wife Ann of Huntsville; a daughter, Chris Cason of Cleburne; a grandson, Justin Underwood and wife Tracey of West and two great grandchildren, Trenton and Taylor Underwood; a granddaughter Emily de Milliano and husband Chris of Huntsville; and grandsons Kendall and Kirby Cason of Huntsville; one brother-in-law, Walter Cason and wife Mary of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
