Maxine “Sit” Evans Dutton, 97, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away February 21, 2023 at Silverado North Shore Memory Care Community in Glendale, Wisconsin. A graveside service will be held in Hillsboro, Texas on March 17, 2023.
Maxine was born November 6, 1925 to Charles and Grace (Bobbitt) Evans in Seminole, Oklahoma before relocating with her family to Effingham, Illinois. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1947, her love of traveling inspired her to begin working as one of the first United Airlines stewardesses for commercial flights. Years later, she transitioned to working for BBDS Advertising where she had a long, successful career.
As a lifelong lover of learning and the arts, Maxine traveled internationally, enjoyed Chicago Broadway performances, attended educational symposiums at the University of Chicago, volunteered at the Newberry Library in Chicago, and supported the Chicago Humanitarian Society. She also enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge clubs, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, sewing, and spending time with friends and family.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Grace (Bobbitt) Evans; her brother and his wife , Judge Charles H. and Gloria (Ippolito) Evans; longtime companion, William Adams; and her nephew, Craig Evans. Surviving her are her twin nieces; Sharon (William) Bell of Springfield, Illinois, and Karen (John) White of Roswell, Georgia; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She is also survived by a very special friend, Riya Kuchny of Grafton, Wisconsin.
