Born Charlie May Dell Falls…Early on, the name “Charlie” seemed to stick, primarily because her father had long anticipated another son. Instead, he was blessed with a daughter, to which he never regretted. Charlie May Dell Falls was born October 2, 1915 in Hill County, Texas, to C.C. Falls and Linnie Katherine Hill Falls. May Dell was the youngest of 7 children. May Dell spent her early childhood in the Woodbury community, rural Hill County, during the years of the Great Depression. Perhaps it was those humble beginnings that developed her strong foundation. When May Dell was 7 years old, her mother succumbed to tuberculosis, leaving her father to raise a son and six daughters as a single parent. Four short years later, May Dell’s father passed away as well, leaving May Dell and her siblings without parental care. After the death of her father, the two youngest girls, May Dell and her sister, Edith, were each sent to live with two of their married sisters. May Dell went to live with her sister Lora and husband, Floyd, while Edith went to live with their sister, Blanche and her husband, Ewell. Fortunately, the older children fared well enough on their own.

On January 14, 1933, at the tender age of 17, May Dell married Robert Millard Cypert, also of Hill County, who forever remained the love of her life. To this union, three children were born…Charles Edwin Cypert, Judy Carolyn Bennett and Robert Ken “Bob” Cypert. May Dell and Millard settled in Hill County, where Millard was a farmer until 1963. It was then they decided to move into Hillsboro, ending a lifetime of farming for Millard. They lived the remainder of their married life as Hillsboro residents, with Millard accepting a position with TP&L and later with Hawk and High Grocery. May Dell was a beautician by trade and owned her own business, Cinderella Beauty Shop, serving the Hillsboro community for 54 years. After 63 years of marriage, Millard passed away in May of 1996. He was 93 years old. May Dell continued to work as a beautician until 2004, retiring at the ripe old age of 86…Her work ethic, along with her faith were key to her longevity.

May Dell was an excellent cook, always trying new recipes found in magazines or she learned about from customers or friends. Her meatloaf was a family favorite, as well as her banana pudding and chocolate chip bundt cake. Working full time and then some, you’d still find May Dell consistently in the kitchen, preparing her special dishes for those that she loved. Holidays were quite the production for May Dell, with huge family dinners the highlight of Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It wasn’t uncommon for May Dell to also invite special guests. A gracious host, she felt it extremely important that nobody spend their holiday alone. May Dell had a competitive side too. She welcomed a good game of 42…And she played to win.

May Dell was firm in her faith and lead by example. She loved her Lord and Savior and felt it her personal mission to make sure her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to know Christ as well. She was a member of the Church of Christ since childhood and has been a faithful member of the College Hill Church of Christ in Hillsboro for many years. May Dell lived independently in Hillsboro until April of 2011 when health issues necessitated her move to Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Edwin Cypert; brother, Clinton Falls; sisters, Jettie Weckter, Aleta Wilson, Lora Bateman, Blanche McMahan, and Edith Shoemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Carolyn Bennett and husband, Carl Max, of Corsicana; son Robert Ken “Bob” Cypert and wife, Lanette, of Lubbock; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cypert of Eden; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

May Dell’s family would like to thank her team of caregivers, including Dr. Kent Rogers and the staff at Navarro Regional Hospital…Most especially, her friends and nurses at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the College Hill Church of Christ, P. O. Box 375, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
