Biography

Melba Jean Bearden, 88, of Hillsboro passed away Friday evening, June 24, 2016, in Mansfield. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 28 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home.

Born in Hill County on October 2, 1927, Jean was the daughter of James Elic and Alice Jewel (Nichols) Porter. She lived in Hill County almost all of her life. Jean and Benton Bearden, Jr. were united in marriage on July 16, 1948, in Waco. Benton preceded her in death on December 29, 2006 after more than 58 years together.

In her younger years, she enjoyed quilting. More recently, she liked to play bingo with her neighbors at the Allen’s Point Apartments and do word search puzzles. She was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ.

Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Emery Ronald Yarber; two sisters, Gatha Crump and Oudia McDuffee; and a brother, Homer Fuller. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Poldrack and husband, Leon, of Midlothian; three grandchildren, Tammie Floyd and husband, Dave, Rodney Poldrack and wife, Summer, and Kathie Ross and husband, Clay; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Floyd, Harley Floyd, Travis Floyd, Jackson Poldrack, Ryder Poldrack, Shelby Ross and Bailey Ross; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; 2630 W. Freeway, Suite 100; Fort Worth, TX 76102 or the charity of one’s choice.
