Melvin Roger Hestand, Sr., age 71, of Woodbury went peacefully at his residence to be in his Heavenly home on Saturday, April 20, 2019. A funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Marshall & Marshall Chapel in Hillsboro with Pastor Sean Boiles officiating. Burial will follow at New Woodbury Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the funeral home.
Melvin was born January 24, 1948, in Itasca, the son of Wilson and Viola (Miller) Hestand. He was a hard working, caring, and loving man. He was a farmer and worked for Burt Hilton and J. F. “Wimpy” Brooks. After he retired from farming, he worked for Hill County Precinct One for 24 years, permanently retiring in 2003. Melvin enjoyed his retirement doing things he loved which included hunting arrowheads and working in his yard. Spending time with his family is what he loved the most.
Melvin married Dorothy Comer July 26, 1974, and they were married for 28 wonderful years before her passing on June 1, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jerry Hestand, Charles Wayne Hestand and Edward Hestand.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Kim Stamper and son, Roger Hestand, both of Woodbury; brother, Jimmy Hestand of Woodbury; sister, Shirley Helms of Whitney; two grandchildren, Stormy Stamper and Adam Stamper both of Woodbury; one great-grandson, Kaiden Brownlow.
