Melvin N. Tekell, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016, in Waxahachie. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, February 1, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Kenneth James officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Melvin was born November 8, 1930 in Wingate to Newton Columbus and Willie Ruby (Ivy) Tekell. On January 8, 1950, he married Lola Faye Robertson in Rockwall. Melvin was a farmer and member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro.

Melvin was known to have a giving heart, often helping the stranger in need. Throughout his life, he was extensively involved in agricultural research and operating his farm and ranch until his death. Through the years Melvin taught Sunday School and Training Union classes and in recent years he served as a Welcome greeter at First Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Adron and Harold Tekell; and sister, Joyce Boyd.

He was survived by his wife of 66 years, Lola Faye Tekell; children, Debra Faye Lamb and husband Craig, Delinda Kaye Wilson and husband Larry, and Myrick Newton Tekell; grandchildren, Emily Thomason, Seth Hogan, Slade Hogan, Lorean Dillard, Morgan Wilson, Haley Wilson, Clay Tekell, Jared Tekell; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Brock, Cora, Lola, Cameron and Colton; brothers, Charles Tekell and wife Becky, and Jerry Tekell; sister, Dorothy Duncan and sister-in-law Reva Jo Tekell; and many other loving relatives and friends.
