Michael ?Mickey? Hancock, 64, was born on November 29, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to K. D. and Olga Buchanan Hancock. He died in Temple, Texas on Mon. July 17, 2006 after suffering a stroke at his home on Sat. July 15. He was a graduate of the 1960 class of Whitney High School. He played football on the Whitney team for four years. Following high school, he served in the U. S. Army for three years receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. He also served in the National Guard for two terms. On March 30, 1962 he received his diploma from the Dallas Fire Department and retired in 2001 having earned the rank of Captain. He served at 25 Station C Shift for twenty years, earning the Hot House Award in 1998. In 1980 Mickey moved back to Whitney when he purchased the Falkner/Hulme/Brock home at 200 South Colorado Street. For the next 20 years, he worked to restore the eleven room Victorian to its former glory, making it one of the showplace homes of the city. On June 19, 1988, Mickey married Tracy Lightfoot in Whitney. He was raised in the First Christian Church and was a member of the Dallas Firefighters Association. Mickey was preceded in death by his mother, Olga, father, K. D. Hancock, Sr. and older half-brother K. D. Hancock, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Tracy; daughter, Tammy Watson Hancock; stepdaughters, Jackie Bell George and husband, Chris, Kellie Marks Jochumsen and husband, Mark; stepsons, Kenneth Marks, Jeremy Bell and wife, Jamie; grandchildren, Kaylee, Kendell, Charlie, Tiffany, Nolan, Alexis, Taylor; brother, J. R. Hancock and wife, Helen; two sisters, Margret Pearce and husband, Wilbur, Barbara Mulcahy and very special loving nieces and nephews.
