Michael Smith, 55 of Whitney passed away on Novemer 15, 2011.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 18, 2011 at White Bluff Chapel with Rev. Terry Cosby officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Mike was born on October 5, 1956 in Kermit, Texas. He was the son of William L. and Letha Lucille (Moore) Smith. On January 15, 1994, he married Rosanne Witham in Kermit.

Mike was an avid hunter and loved fishing on Lake Whitney. He was always on the look out for the elusive striped bass. He was a member of the fraternal order of Kappa Alpha. He attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas and left to start working in the natural gas industry. He worked as a pipeline operator for over 35 years with Transwestern Pipeline and most recently with Energy Transfer. Mike was a devoted Baptist and volunteered on teams with other Baptist men to help others in their community. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandpa who always had a funny story to tell. He will be dearly missed by many people.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Letha Lucille Smith; grandparents, Cletis and Lola Smith and Marvin and Ruby Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Rosanne of Whitney; father, William L. Smith of Kermit; children, Justin Lee Smith of Irving, Paul L. Spaulding and wife, Corie of Odessa; Michael P. Spaulding and wife, Megan of Wasilla, Alaska; brother, Jimmy Lee Smith of Whitney; 2 granddaughters, Erin and Emersyn Spaulding of Wasilla, Alaska.
