Mickey Lynn Burney, 52, of Whitney, passed away on January 16, 2017, at a Waco hospital. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. The family will hold a memorial service on Friday, January 20, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Greg Johnson officiating.

Mickey was born on November 28, 1964, in San Angelo, to Jessy and Elsie (Boykin) Burney. He grew up in the Burleson/Ft. Worth area and graduated from West Lake Christian Academy in 1984. He enjoyed being outdoors, water skiing, snow skiing, fishing, camping, and all types of sports including playing on the church league softball team.

A very active and faithful member of the Whitney Church of the Nazarene, he served in many capacities in the church. He was a very big part of the Men’s Ministry, was a licensed minister with the Nazarene Church and was currently enrolled in the ministerial course of study to become a Nazarene minister.

A self-employed handyman, he was always willing to help anyone in need. His hobbies included woodworking and building things.

On May 1, 2015, he married Gina Hudson in Whitney.

Preceding him in death were his father, Jessy Burney on May 14, 2002 and a brother, Scott Burney on July 19, 2010.

Survivors include his wife, Gina Burney, of Whitney; mother, Elsie Burney, of Whitney; children, Ashley Yocom and husband, Clint Nelson of Morrilton, Arkansas, Bradley Burney of Whitney, Jeremiah Burney of Granbury, Kayla Rhodes and husband, David of Duncan, Oklahoma, Candace Chapple and husband, Michael of Frisco, Matthew Cole and Christian Cole both of Ft. Worth and Brandon Cole of Whitney; grandchildren, Jesse, Skyler, Jocelynn, Lukas, Hazel, Michaela, and Mason; brothers, Rodger Burney and wife, Sharrelyn of Crowley; and sister, Shaunda Wolfe of Kerrville.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Men’s Ministry, P.O. Box 1115, Whitney, Texas 76692.
