Mike “Red” Schaffer, 60, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at Peoria Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Runkel officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Mike was born September 18, 1953 in Waco to Edwin and Catherine (Walker) Schaffer. He served his country in the United States Army. Before becoming disabled, he worked as an EMT and truck driver. Mike enjoyed being with his family very much. He was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death was an infant sister, Sandra Schaffer, in 1951.
Survivors include his parents Edwin and Catherine Schaffer of Hillsboro; son, Michael Schaffer, Jr. of Wolfe City; four brothers, Tom Schaffer and wife, Carolyn, of Hillsboro, Larry Schaffer of Dallas, Jerry Schaffer and wife, Bea, of West, and James Schaffer of Hillsboro; two sisters, Cathy Neyhard and husband, David, and Cindy Glenn and husband, Roger, all of McGregor; granddaughter, Charlie Nicole Schaffer of Wolfe City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
