Mike Womble, 67, of Whitney passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. No services will be scheduled.
Born January 3, 1949 in Odessa, he was the son of James and Juanita (French) Womble. He was a graduate of Odessa High School, where he was a varsity football and track star. Mike played on the 1964 OHS football team that beat Odessa Permian. That was OHS’s last win against Permian for the next 32 years.
For many years he was an x-ray technician in the oil field and in later years was a welding inspector, working all over the United States. Mike moved to Houston in 1988, where he lived for about 20 years before moving to Whitney. An avid scuba diver, Mike logged thousands of dives. He became a dive master and member of PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and DAN (Diver’s Alert Network). He enjoyed boating, motorcycles, guns, and metal cast cars. Mike was also a member of the NRA.
Preceding him in death was his mother.
Survivors include his father, Jim Womble and wife, Margaret, of Odessa; son, James Womble of Big Spring; and two sisters, Pam and Jackie.
