Milton Baker

Milton Clarence Baker, 63, of Whitney, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2018, at his residence from complications of dialysis. His family will host a graveside celebration of his life at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Peoria Cemetery in Peoria.

Milton was born in Hillsboro on November 1, 1954, the son of Clarence Milton Baker and Susie (Sheffield) Baker and lived most of his life in Hill County. He loved the Lord and was a member of the Whitney Church of Christ and would attend when his health allowed it.

He had many, many talents. There was not much of anything he couldn’t do from being a class A welder, to building many homes in the Hill County area, to construction of metal buildings. A great shade tree mechanic, his talents were many for sure. He loved to fish and to cook his catch as he was a wonderful cook. He could take an old boot and make it taste good.

He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren, going out to the lake and cooking on the grill or campfire. You never left hungry because Milton loved cooking and feeding everyone. He would help anyone in need, giving you the shirt off his back, if you needed it. Even when his health began to decline several years ago, he was always there for you.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Glenn Baker; sisters, Pasty Hoff, Catherine Wakefield, Brenda Bugg and her husband, Kenneth Bugg.

Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Baker; sisters, Barbara Green of Wichita Kansas, Mary Burrow of Whitney, Susie Matherly of Whitney, Tammy McCartney of Stephenville; his grandchildren, Mattthew and Makayla Mirick; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His favorite saying was: “ keep your powder dry and your chin in the wind, and be the best you can be.”

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. “Peace out.”
