Miriam Pharris

Miriam Mae Bigham Pharris, 87, of Woodbury went to be with her Lord & Savior on Monday, February 3, 2014, in Tomball. Miriam Mae, as she was commonly known by her friends in Hill County, had been residing with her son and granddaughter in the Houston area where her doctors were located. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Woodbury Baptist Church in Woodbury with Rev. Stanley Lohse officiating. Burial will follow at New Woodbury Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Miriam Mae was born on April 22, 1926 in the Woodbury Community, where she was an active member of the Woodbury Baptist Church. She was the oldest living member of the church at the time of her passing. Her parents were James F. and Annie Lee (Sessums) Bigham. The Bigham’s and Sessum’s were instrumental in the growth of the Woodbury Baptist Church, having donated land to the church.

In August of 1945, Miriam Mae married Joe Bob Pharris and he preceded her in death in December of 2000. The couple made their home on their farm and ranch operation known as Pharris Hereford Farms. The farm was located north of Hillsboro and they bred Polled Hereford cattle. Since 1976, she had been a real estate broker and owned and operated the local real estate company, Land-Tex Enterprises Inc., until her health started declining three years ago.

Also preceding her in death were her mother, Annie Lee Sessums Bigham, and father, James F. Bigham, both in 1993; and loving daughter-in-law, Cindy Pharris, in February 2009.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Pharris of Houston; granddaughter, Jennifer Pharris of Houston; and the love of her life her great-grandson, Carson Pharris, with whom she was able to spend the last 17 months cherishing every moment.
