Morris Russell, 88, of Abbott, passed away on November 10, 2018 in West. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Stephen Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Springs Cemetery in Bynum. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday evening at the funeral home.
Born on July 25, 1930, Morris was the son of J. B. “Barney” and Elgia (Morris) Russell and lived in Abbott all his life. After graduating from Abbott High School in 1947, he attended Hillsboro Junior College for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served overseas in Germany during his four years of duty. After the service, he returned and worked for Chance Vought Aircraft, General Tire and Certainteed before beginning full-time farming. On August 22, 1960, he and Mary Mae Morgan were united in marriage in Blooming Grove.
Morris spent his leisure time hunting, fishing and playing horseshoes. A jack-of-all-trades, he could build or repair anything. Also a skilled carpenter, he and his family built his parents’ home in Abbott. He cherished spending time with family and sharing popsicles from his freezer with his grandchildren. He was a member of Abbott Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Bill Russell; and sister, Marilyn Harwell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Mae Russell of Abbott; children, Buster Russell and wife, Sharon, Tim Russell and wife, Shirley, all of Abbott, and Emily Glatter and husband, Tommy, of Mart; brother, Lynn Russell and wife, Susan, of Hillsboro; 7 grandchildren, Brad Russell and wife, Amy, Travis Russell and wife, Meagan, and Kelsey Russell, all of Abbott, Ross Langdale of Waco, Eathan Langdale and fiancée, Katie, of Rowlett, Aaron Glatter of Waco, Jessica Russell and Jared Russell, both of Abbott; 3 great-grandchildren, Hogan, Brinley and Railey, and another great-grandson, Waylon, due in March; sisters-in-law, Beth Richcreek of Hillsboro, Ella Morgan of West and Pauline Etter of Abbott; brother-in-law, Livy Etter of Abbott; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
