Mozelle Votaw

Mozelle Votaw, 81, of Hillsboro passed away Monday afternoon, September 4, 2017, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Derrell Surface of First Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to service time. Burial will follow at Peoria Cemetery.

Born April 26, 1936 in Brandon, she was the daughter of Mose and Maudie Mae (Jones) Sheffield. A native of Hill County, Mozelle spent her life raising her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and camping. She and her sisters loved “picking and grinning” on their guitars. She was a very active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro.

Preceding her in death were her parents; five sons, Earl Ray, Gary Don, Ronny, Steve, and Roger Votaw; and grandson, Mark Votaw; seven brothers, Roy, Mose Lee, Jim, Luther, Raymond, J. T., and Frank Sheffield; five sisters, Bessie Thomas, Vida Pearl Thompson, Lula Willett, Pearl Monroe, and Susie Emma Baker. Mozelle was the last surviving sibling of thirteen children.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Caroline Smith and husband, Kent, and Debra Votaw, both of Hillsboro; daughter-in-law, Linda Votaw of Paduach; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; several nephews and nieces including, Robert Monroe and wife, Joni, of Covington and Mary Hughes of Houston; and many other relatives and friends.
