Nadine Stanford Lentz, 89, of Hillsboro died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Nadine was born September 11, 1920 in Hillsboro, where she lived all of her life, daughter of the late Bozie Brice and Fannie Lou Williford Stanford. Following graduation from Hillsboro High School, she worked with her grandparents doing all the cooking for their boarding house. She was a wonderful cook. She also worked at the Texas Theater and for Bell Telephone, before marrying Alton A. Lentz on June 9, 1945 following WWII. The couple were co-owners of Hawk and High Grocery in Hillsboro for many years. She and her husband were also very active in the American Ex-Prisoners of War Organization. For many years, they hosted weekly family gatherings, enjoying homemade ice cream. She also enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. A longtime member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, where her mother was a charter member, Nadine was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding her in death were her husband and seven siblings, Mozelle Davison, Ludelle Curry, Adelle Nance, Bobbie Stanford, G. W. Stanford, Alvin Stanford, and L. E. Stanford. Survivors include her brother, David Brice Sonny Stanford of Hillsboro, and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
