Mrs. Nancy Harwell Scott, age 85, of Hillsboro, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, transitioned into the arms of Jesus Monday, January 25, 2021, at Homestead Nursing home in Hillsboro. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James officiating. She will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Facial masks and social distancing are required.
Nancy was born January 21, 1936, in Bynum, Texas, on the family farm to Floyd E. and Jewel (Harrell) Harwell. A Hill County Bynum first family, Nancy attended and graduated from Bynum High School in 1954. On April 24, 1955, she married the love of her life, James Truett Scott in Hillsboro, Texas where they were fortunate to share 60 years together and raise their 4 children. Nancy worked as a homemaker and secretary for Dr. Oran Bailey at Hill Junior College during the 70’s and the 80’s. She ended her career as a secretary for the Texas Highway Maintenance Department.
Nancy was an avid basketball fan and spent many nights cheering on the Dallas Mavericks. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and sewing. Nancy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She was a dedicated mother who enjoyed watching her family grow. Also, she was known for her strong will, fast wit, and loving nature; she will be missed by her family, neighbors, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, James Truett Scott; and her sister, Mary Neel Benson.
Nancy is survived by her children, Becky Scott Blair and husband, Chuck, of Hillsboro, Jim (Bo) Scott and wife, Delores of Hillsboro, John Scott and wife, Alice, of Whitney, and Bob Scott and wife, Martha, of Waco; grandchildren, Clint Blair and wife, Brandy, of Grandview, Grant Blair and wife, Emily of Dallas, Kate Ortega and husband, Vince, of Austin, Kelsey Scott and fiancé, Toby Derrington, of Hillsboro, Callie Scott, of Ft. Worth, Sam Scott and wife, Addi, of Waco, Jim Scott and wife, Anna, of Ft. Worth, Lauren Baugh and husband, Casey, of Leroy, and Truett Scott, of College Station; sister-in-law, Glenda Cain; and eight great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
