Nannie Catherine Parks Watson, age 90, of Newnan, GA died on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Christian Ministries Hospice in Griffin, GA.

The funeral service is Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Rev. John Hagen officiating. The visitation is Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St, Newnan, GA 30263. The graveside service and burial is Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro, TX.

She was born in Hillsboro, TX on February 19, 1921 to the late Horace Layfette Parks, Sr. & Emma Elizabeth Cooper Parks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Jesse Ray “J.R.” Watson; brothers, Jefferson David Parks, Horace L. Parks, Jr, Luther Cooper Parks; and sister, Louise Irene Parks King.

After she graduated from high school, she earned her Associate’s Degree at Hillsboro College. On November 30, 1940 she married Jesse Ray Watson and they made their home in Hillsboro together where Mrs. Watson was a loving wife, mother, home maker, secretary & real estate salesperson. She joined the First United Methodist Church of Hillsboro at an early age where she later was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group, Cochabamba Circle and she taught classes with the children and youth departments. She was a member of the chancel choir for over forty years. She was a life member of Las Causeuses Texas Federated Women’s Club, the Hillsboro Heritage League & Hill County Museum.

She and her husband moved to Newnan, GA in 1997. They transferred their church membership from Texas to Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church on July 17, 1997. While a member of Cokes Chapel, she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the church choir, Eubanks Sunday School class and the Jubilee Singers. She will also be remembered by her lovely china paintings, needlepoint works and other arts & crafts. Her ability as a loving cook will be missed by all.

Mrs. Watson is survived by sons, Barry S. Watson, Sr. & his wife Shirley Ann of Sharpsburg, GA, Jesse “Ray” Watson, Jr. & his wife Shirley Ann of Praque, OK; grandchildren, Barry Stephen Watson, Jr. & his wife Melissa of Newnan, GA, Brian Christopher Watson & his wife Amy of Senoia, GA, Lois Anita Catherine Brown & her husband John of Praque, OK; great-grandchildren, Barry Stephen Watson, III, Zander Tate Brown; nieces, nephews and members of extended family.
