Nellie Ruth Phillips, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Stockdale Cemetery in Stockdale. Visitation will be from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, at the funeral home.
Born March 4, 1932 in Wilson County, Nellie was the daughter of John Roe and Rutha Indiana (McGuffin) Dixon. In November 1954, Nellie was united in marriage to Otho Willie Phillips and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1994. She lived most of her life in Stockdale, later moving to Waco and then to Hillsboro in 2005. She was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Nellie loved to sing old gospel songs.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Debbie Arnett; grandson, J. P. Arnett; great-granddaughter, Nicole Renee Rice; brother, Herbert Dixon; and two sisters, Johnnie Quinney and Bernice Smithey.
Survivors include her children, Brandon Phillips (Jennifer) of Hillsboro, Randy Phillips of Clute, Ruby Talley (Gary) of Floresville, Pam Burrier (Chester) of Stockdale, and Darrel Phillips (Sandy) of Eastland; 12 grandchildren, Chanda Arnett, Alan Arnett, Suzanne Phillips, Jonathan Hill, Cody Talley, Michael Talley, Rachelle Rice, Bobbie Jo Talley, Chet Burrier, Shawn Burrier, Michelle Phillips, and Daniel Phillips; 24½ great-grandchildren; dear, dear friends, Chuck Bennett and Ruth Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
