Nelson Gatlin

Nelson was the son of Elvin and Florence Lumpkin Gatlin. He enlisted in the Unites States Navy on August 19, 1942 and was discharged on January 9, 1946. He married Louise Lee on July 27, 1946 in Whitney. Retiring in 1986, he had worked as a maintainer operator for Hill County. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Baptist faith. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Monte Gatlin in 1996; grandson, Tyrell Gatlin in 1983; two brothers, Denzel and Lavern Gatlin; 3 sisters, Pearl Auten, Winnie Berniece Gatlin and Clora Nig Barnes. Survivors include his wife, Louise Gatlin of Whitney; children, Troy Gatlin and wife, Janis of Whitney, Misachilene Dennis and husband, Leslie of Whitney, daughter-in-law: Mary Ann Gatlin of Whitney; sister, Cloteal Underwood of Olney;12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
