Nelta Hasten

Nelta Hasten, 84, of Mertens died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. Nelta was born February 16, 1923 in Mertens, Texas, where she grew up and spent all of her life, the daughter of Blanny and Ada Kemp Thomas. After graduating from Mertens High School, Nelta went on to receive her Bachelors degree from North Texas and her Masters degree from Baylor in Education. She taught school for 42 years. On May 27, 1943 she married Leonard Hasten. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Italy. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Leonard Hasten of Mertens; son, Kenneth Hasten and wife, Freda, of Mertens; and two grandchildren, Kyle Hasten and Michele Smithey.
