Nena Caperton


Nena was the daughter of the late Joe Henry and Amy Lola Barnett Allen. She grew up around Huron and the Whitney area and graduated from Whitney High School. On Sept. 11, 1946, she married Alford Joe Caperton and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1981. Nena worked in several of the sewing factories around the area as well as a waitress in several of the local cafes. Nena loved George Strait and Elvis Presley. She enjoyed sewing, reading Christian books, listening to gospel music, crocheting and working word puzzles as well as being very active in her daughter's activities where she was always a room mother and a member and officer of the Parent Teacher Organizations. After the girls were out of school she went to nursing school to become an LVN and worked at Grant Buie Hospital, Town Hall Estates and Park Plaza Nursing Home and helped train many of the nurses that later took care of her. Nena was always one that liked to talk and take care of people she became the night receptionist at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors until she retired. She was a member of the Prairie Valley Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by grandson, Joseph Howard Booth, III. Survivors include her daughters, Nena Jo Booth of Whitney and Patricia Lathen of Meridian; brother, Glen Allen and wife Lillian of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Karen Prescher and husband Brent, Wendy Booth Phillips, James Damron and wife Vonda, Kerrie Humphrey and husband, Dean, Tim Booth and wife Trena, Kristi Baker and husband Ron; great grandchldren, Kayla, Matthew, Wil, Jeremiah, Ashley, Brittany, Michael, Ryan, Levi, Reese, Mackenzie, Kylie and Zane; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank all of the staff and nurses at Park Plaza Nursing Home for the wonderful care and friendship you have shown over the years and Hospice of the Heart for the comfort and care during the last days of mother's life.
