Neva Joyce “Joy” Tyson, 92, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Town Hall Estates in Whitney. Funeral Services will be Sunday, September 29, at 2:00 P.M. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors with Chaplain Bruce Mercer of Odyssey Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM Sunday, September 29.

Joy was born on February 21, 1921 in Throckmorton County, to Aude Charles and Gladys Alva (Allen) Beck. On December 22, 1939, she married Thomas “Jack” Tyson and he preceded her in death on October 11, 1998. Joy was a homemaker. She had lived in Whitney since 1983 and was a faithful member of Fort Graham Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Jackie Joyce Hughes, in 1965; brothers, Pete, Clayton, Allen, Audie D., Don, Bill and sister, Peggy.

She is survived by her son, Ron and wife, Priscilla Tyson of Las Vegas, New Mexico; sisters, Virginia Preseler of Boerne and Retha Terrell of Fort Worth; 5 grandchildren, Will Tyson, Alicia Wilson, Elizabeth Sandoval, Yvonne Chavez, and June Roybal; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Wyatt, Colten, Jackie Faith, Tristan, Tyler, Isaac, Carlos, Elizabeth, Ray, Antonio, Mateo, and Mikayla; three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in Joy’s name to the Women’s Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention.
