James Newman Lloyd, born May 29, 1933, in the Culp Community of Hill County, Texas, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 16 days, in Hillsboro, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at The Heights Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Stephen McCoy officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Newman married the love of his life, Marie, on September 2, 1950, in Hillsboro and they celebrated over 73 years of happiness together. He was a member of The Heights Church. An automobile dealer for most of his life, he and Marie owned and operated Lloyd Motor Co. in Hillsboro.
Newman enjoyed classic cars, motorcycles, spending time with his family and friends, singing hymns, and (of course) yodeling. He was very proud of his military service in the U. S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, serving in France in the early 1950’s. Newman’s passion was living for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and sharing his faith in God without reservation.
Newman is survived by his wife, Marie (Poteet) Lloyd of Hillsboro; and two sons, Dwight Lloyd and wife, Marquita, of Itasca and Larry Lloyd and wife, Terri, of Hillsboro. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Lynita Haak and husband, Preston, of Vaughan, Lanissa Willis and husband, Blake, of Waco, Stefan Lloyd and wife, Lauren, of Whitney, Nathan Lloyd of Waco, Jordan Haney and husband, Shane, of McKinney, and Cherri Myers and husband, Ryan, of Hillsboro. Newman is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Aldrich, Jaydon Aldrich, Landon Willis, Creighton Willis, Olivia Lloyd, Hudson Haney, Stella Lloyd, Nolan Haney, and soon-to-be-born Juniper Myers. Also surviving are numerous extended family members, church family members, and friends.
Newman is preceded in death by his mother, Oma Lorene (Padgett) Lloyd; his father, James Douglas (J. D.) Lloyd; one brother, Kenneth Lloyd; one sister, Linda Kuykendall; and one great-grandson, Caleb Christian Haney.
Newman’s family would like to thank the doctors and many nurses and caregivers at Hill Regional Hospital, West Rest Haven, Town Hall Estates, and Harbor Hospice.
Newman will be remembered for breaking out in song at any given moment. His favorite quote refers to his deep belief and relationship in God… “It’s real, it’s real, I know it’s real.”
Memorials may be made to the Gideons International Hill County Camp, P. O. Box 1221, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
