Norman L. Honeycutt, 83, of Peoria passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Peoria Cemetery with Rev. Joe Bob Boyd of Bethel Bible Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Norman was born January 26, 1928 in San Angelo to Wallace Henry and Carrie (Boles) Honeycutt. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Abbott where he grew up. He served his country in the United States Army and shortly thereafter went to work for the City of Hillsboro. He worked there for 38 years, serving as Fire Chief for 24 years. Norman also operated several businesses including a barbecue restaurant, service station, and a hotel. He loved to fish and certainly wasn’t afraid of work. He was a member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge, certified Peace Officer, and past member of the Hillsboro City Council.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Homer, Ben, Henry, and Gene Honeycutt; and three sisters, Jessie Lee Michaelfresh, Maudie Kitts, and Opal Morgan.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Kay Honeycutt of Hillsboro; sister, Rita McCollum of Crowley; two grandsons, Forest Elkins of Peoria and Jacob Elkins of Lillian; a number of nieces and nephews; and close friends, David Bledsoe and family and Velma Lee.
