Ola Cook

Ola Cook, 73, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, in a Dallas hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Amy Anderson of First United Methodist Church in Mart officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the funeral home.

Born March 14, 1944 in Huntington, WV, she was the daughter of Camlin and Etha (Hayner) Hammond. At the young age of 15, Ola began her working career at a dress factory. She later became a candy striper at a hospital which led her to study and earn her LPN nursing degree. Ola worked as a nurse until the age of 31 when she moved to Texas, settling in Deer Park, and began working in the trucking industry as a personnel director. In 1983, Ola moved to Waco. She and Melvin “Sonny” Cook were married on July 27, 1984. The couple moved to Whitney, Maypearl, and then settled in Hillsboro in the late 1990's.

An eclectic collector, Ola’s favorite things to collect were owls. Going on cruises, camping, and spending time with her kids and grandkids brought great joy to her life. Her family was her life. She also loved to garden and had two green thumbs.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, Wade Trenton Stewart and Russell Leonard Stewart; and brother, Russell Mays.

Survivors include her loving husband of 32 years, Sonny Cook of Hillsboro; two children, Terry Stewart and wife, Patcharee, of Cypress and Denine Cumins of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Terri Ann Stewart and husband, Joshua Garrison, of Pinehurst, Ashley Stewart of Georgetown, Dustin James Stewart of Katy, Maxwell Reed Stewart of Cypress, Jack Aaron Cumins and Sunshine Camlin Cumins, both of Hillsboro, and Jeremy Kieffer and Justin Kieffer, both of Cypress; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander Garrison and Sidney Garrison.

Memorials may be made to the Hill County Paw Pals, P. O. Box 1533, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
