Opal P. Martin, 93, of Tatum, New Mexico died Monday, September 3, 2007, at Bradley County Medical Center in Warren, Arkansas. Opal was born November 7, 1913 in Davis, Oklahoma the daughter of Robert H. and Allie W. Aldridge Huddleston. At age 5 when her family moved from Davis, OK to Hermleigh, TX, she road her horse the whole trip. During WWII she worked in aircraft production as a ?Rosie the Riveter? in San Diego, CA. On November 5, 1931 she married Abe L. Martin in Lovington, NM and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1992. In 1964 they moved to Peoria and she lived there until 2001 when she moved to Cleburne. While living in Peoria she was known at Sullivan?s barn as the hamburger lady. In 2004 she moved to Tatum, NM. Opal loved to dance at least twice a week until 5 years ago. She was a member of the Tatum Church of Christ. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Robert Buck Huddleston, Dale Huddleston, and J. C. Huddleston; and one sister, Viola Sullivan. Survivors include two daughters, Bette West and husband, Bill, of Tatum, NM and Kaye Gorman and husband, Don, of Hermitage, AR; one brother, Carroll Huddleston of Weeleka, OK; one sister, Mary Rogers of Brownfield, TX; five grandchildren, Brenda Jones of Abilene, TX, Robbin Evans of Meadow, TX, Sheila Morrow of Levelland, TX, Glenna Valentine of Atlanta, GA, and Jan Milburn of Hermitage, AR; five step-grandchildren, Allen Jones of Eunice, NM, Rhonda Welch of Cameron, TX, Marvaline Holland of Tyler, TX, Murray West of Stephenville, TX, and Tammy Cornette of Greenwood, TX; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; five nieces; and six nephews.
