Opal Smith, 103, of Hillsboro passed away Monday morning, November 20, 2017, at Wesley House Assisted Living in Hillsboro. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born October 25, 1914 in Cave, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Joseph Franklin and Sarah Melvina (Jones) Provence. As a child, her family moved to Abbott where she grew up and attended school. In 1931, Opal married Coy Smith and they lived in Hillsboro the rest of their lives. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Elizabeth McKinney; son, Walt E. Smith; three sisters, Ellene Sims, Janie Perry, and Marie Arron; and three brothers, Johnny Provence, Ernest Provence, and Lenial Provence.
Survivors include her daughter, Jo Rouzicka of Houston; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
