Oscar E. Beat Whittington, 82, of Hillsboro, a most devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Homestead Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Oscar was born October 22, 1925 in Pluto, Ellis County, Texas the son of Oscar B. Whittington and Mary Patton Whittington. He lived in Hillsboro all of his life except when he was serving his country. He served in the U. S. Navy as Seaman 1st Class in amphibious forces in the Pacific during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. On October 21, 1943 he married Frances Earl. They resided in Hillsboro 64 years, 11 months, and 5 days, where they were a very happy and united family. After returning from the war, he went to wood work college and worked for Exporters and Traders Compress for 20 years. Oscar committed his life to our Lord and Savior in 1953 at Church of The Nazarene in Hillsboro. His faith never wavered. In 1969 he and Frances purchased a partner business on Rose Hill in Hillsboro. They spent 35 years in Country Market and Grocery. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Alma Birdwell and Melvina Roberts; and two brothers, Waymon and J. Whittington. Survivors include his wife, Frances Whittington of Hillsboro; son, Dennis Whittington of Hillsboro; granddaughter, Susan Dennison of Temple; great-granddaughter, Zoie Dennison of Temple; Susan's mother, Jean Whittington of Hillsboro; special friend and brother-in-law, Lloyd Porter of Hillsboro; and many other friends. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
