Ovela Fae Hunt, 93, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 2, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 5, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Phil Hunt and Rev. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ovela was born on April 3, 1921 in Hill County to Vester Arnold and Zula Mae (Terrell) Curry. Growing up in Hill County, she was valedictorian of her high school class having been double promoted on two occasions. She also attended Hill Junior College. Throughout her career, she owned and operated several businesses including Hunt’s Garage, Stop 77, Eagles Nest Café, and Hunt’s Washateria. For many years, she also worked at J. B. White’s Department Store.

On December 14, 1942, she and Leslie Hunt were united in marriage in Hillsboro. Leslie preceded her in death on February 15, 2000.

Known for her pies, Ovela was an excellent cook. In her spare time, she always enjoyed playing a good game of “42" with her friends. She loved all of her family unconditionally, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ovela was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and the Les Causeuses Club.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Juanita Williams.

Survivors include her four daughters, Judy Whittington and husband, Harold, of Garland, Joyce Moore and husband, Larry, of Richardson, Janice Helton of Hillsboro, and Joan Randall and husband, Keith, of Bryan and ten grandchildren, David Whittington and wife, Kelly, of Melissa, Stephen Whittington and wife, Melissa, of Frisco, Kelli Mabra and husband, Greg, of Sachse, Scott Steele and wife, Rebel, of Hillsboro, Emily McLaughlin and husband, Hank, of Garland, Courtney Jones and husband, Richard, of McKinney, Matthew Helton of San Antonio, Megan Helton and fiancé, Grant Varnell, of Frisco, Leslie Drewett and husband, Lee, of Kingwood, and Terrell Randall of Allen.

Also surviving her are thirteen great-grandchildren, Haley, Allyssa, Grant, Grace, Malori, Maverick, Cameron, Harrison, Jon Hunter, Carsyn, Lainey, and Luke; brother-in-law, Robert Hunt of Kountze; sister-in-law, Ellen Hunt of Hillsboro; adopted family, Phoc and My Sy and their children, Erika and Aaron; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
