Patricia (Patterson) Nelson

Patricia "Pat" Sue Nelson, age 83, passed away on March 14, 2024, in Waco, Texas. She was born on January 12, 1941, in Joplin, Missouri. Pat lived life on her own terms, always maintaining a positive outlook and believing in playing the hand of cards dealt to her. She had overcome much adversity in her life. She was known for her thrifty nature, independence, and good sense of humor.

Pat's primary focus when her children were young was being involved in their many activities. She attended every sporting event of Terry's and drill team shows of Kim. Throughout her life, Pat worked various jobs. She had worked in several capacities such as Avon Lady, LVN, and also contributed to managing a family-owned construction business. She was a member of The Cowboy Church in Whitney and, more recently, attended the King Memorial Methodist Church.

Pat was passionate about serving her community and volunteered at the Whitney Food Bank, King Memorial United Methodist Church Thrift Store, and Whitney Library. She found joy in outdoor activities such as hiking, walking, biking, kayaking, and camping. Her love for travel took her to various destinations, including Peru, England, Scotland, Ireland, Alaska, and Costa Rica. Pat's mantra was "Been there..Done that." Some of her travel highlights included hiking Machu Picchu, The Grand Canyon, Davis Mountains, Big Bend, and numerous state parks in Texas. She cherished memories of attending the Albuquerque Balloon Festival. On a day-to-day basis she enjoyed playing cards and games, reading, watching PBS, and loved listening to Blues and Classic Rock.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her son, Terry Nelson of Houston, and her brother, Carroll "Skip" Atwood of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Pat was predeceased by her daughter, Kim Nelson. Respecting her wishes, there will be no memorial service; her son will scatter her ashes in the various places that she held dear.
