Patti Emily (Green) Hughes

Patricia (Patti) Emily Hughes, 89, of Hillsboro, Texas, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2020 at Lampstand Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bryan, Texas while recovering from major surgery.   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.  She will lie-in-state on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  She will be buried next to Archie Hughes at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro,

Patti was born on December 5, 1930, in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of the late Margaret and Al White.   She was adopted by her beloved stepfather, Charles Kelly Green in 1934 and was the youngest of two siblings.

She graduated from Glen Ellen High School in 1948 and Collins Beauty School in 1967.  She married Robert T. Martin on May 26, 1951 and Archie Hughes on February 22, 1969.

Patti was the owner and operator of Hughes Barber and Beauty Supply with husband Archie in Hillsboro for 42 years before retiring in 2011 at the age of 81. She enjoyed meeting and becoming life-long friends with her customers. She enjoyed her meetings with the Business and Professional Women of Hillsboro and volunteered with the Bonds Alley Arts Festival.

She also enjoyed traveling to many countries including the Far East, Europe and the Mediterranean and most US states. She also loved raising African violets and her vegetable gardens.  She was proud of her two sons who graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station and her daughter who graduated from UT-Tyler, all three of which were the first generation in the family to attend college.

She is survived by her two sons, Kelly Martin of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Michael Martin of College Station and her daughter, Cynthia Ruescher and son-in-law Bill of Tyler; a sister, Julie Rasmussen of Dallas; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
