Pattie Reba (Wilson) Matthews, 92, of Fort Worth passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 30, 2015, in Fort Worth surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday prior to service time at the funeral home.
Pattie was born January 1, 1923, on her parents farm outside of Itasca, to the late James Emery and Cora Lee (Bodine) Wilson. She graduated from Itasca High School and Hill Junior College. On January 17, 1942, she married the love of her life, Joseph Edwin Matthews. They moved to Fort Worth, where they lived the rest of their lives and raised their family.
Pattie was a very family orientated person. She spent much of her time with her siblings and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved deeply. When she was not occupied with raising her children and being with family, she was very active in her community. She volunteered at the hospitals, her children’s schools, and was active in several garden clubs. In her spare-time, Pattie enjoyed gardening and doing arts and crafts. Anyone who knew her, was honored to be given some of her art work, pillows, and painted decorative items, which she enjoyed giving freely.
During their retirement years, Pattie and Joe Ed traveled extensively all over the United States and Canada in their RV. They would often take their children and grandchildren on trips with them. A loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend, Pattie was a very sweet and kind person. Everyone knows that she is now happily reunited with Joe Ed.
Also preceding her in death were her husband of 70 years; one grandson, Ryan Lee Matthews; eight of her brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Edward Moler.
Survivors include her children, Joanne Moler of Granbury, Eloise Matthews of Dallas, and James David Matthews and wife, Gerry Ann, of Fort Worth; sister, Jimmie Lynn Schmoldt and husband, Hans, of Bartelsville, OK; sister-in-law, Bobby Dean Matthews of Burleson; grandchildren, Dr. Edward J. Moler and wife, Jane, of California, Donald W. Moler and wife, Kamila, of Florida, and Shea Matthews Patterson and husband, Matt, of Fort Worth; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
