Paula Joyce Childre, 52, of Whitney, went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with Pancreatic and Liver cancer on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at her home in Whitney. Paula was born April 16, 1957 in Hillsboro. She was the daughter of Luejean Porter and the late Milton Porter. Paula married the love of her life, Mark Childre, on June 10, 2000. They were happily married for 9 years. Paula grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1975 and attended Hillsboro Junior College for two years. In 1982 she moved to Waco where she worked at Connally Compton Funeral Home for 15 years and later left there to take over her father?s business at Woodman of the World Life Insurance in Hillsboro. She worked there for 12 years. She was employed at Bailey Life Insurance in Waco when she received the news of her illness. Paula was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro for most of her life. She also was a former President of the Optimist Club in Waco. Paula always lived life to the fullest and loved to travel. She enjoyed keeping up with all of her former classmates from high school and college. Paula never met a stranger and had many friends. She had a beautiful personality and a loving spirit that brought joy to those that were around her. She was preceded in death by her father, Milton Porter and grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Edmond Wright, Tommy Porter and Mae Hill, and Mr. & Mrs. Roy Sparks. She is survived by her husband, Mark Childre, of Whitney; her mother, Luejean Porter, of Hillsboro; daughter, Amy Powers and husband, Jason, of China Spring; step-son, Matt Childre, of Whitney; two beautiful grandchildren, Jayce and Leah Powers; two sisters, Pam Peschel and husband, Bruce, of Hillsboro and Cathy Roznos and husband, Steve, of West; four nephews, Bradley and Cameron Peschel of Hillsboro and Brandon and Nicholas Roznos of West; and her mother-in-law, Joyce Childre, of Mt.
