Peggy Box Hemmes, 79, of Covington passed away Monday, July 11, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Waxahachie City Cemetery in Waxahachie. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the funeral home.

Born November 23, 1936 in Leroy, she was the daughter of Mose and Ida Cleo (Skains) Thrasher. A graduate of Axtell High School, Peggy also attended business college in her early twenties while living in Dallas. On December 30, 1960, she was united in marriage to Billy G. Box and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1995. She later married Alfred Hemmes on December 14, 1998 in Houston. During her working career, she was employed at Miller Insurance Agency and Interfirst Bank in Fort Worth.

Peggy enjoyed watching birds, traveling, sewing, and doing crafts. Her children and entire family were her life. She was a member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church in Cleburne.

Also preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred Hemmes of Covington; four children, Kenneth Box and wife, Frances, of Covington, Tracy Box and wife, Tracy, of Black River, Michigan, Twyla Painter and husband, Blaine, of Roseburg, Oregon, and Shelley Hughes of Burleson; four step-children, Diana Hemmes, Kathy Hemmes, and Ruth Simmonds and husband, Jerry, all of Houston, and Valerie Marchbanks and husband, Ronald, of Alabama; brother, Melvin T. Thrasher and wife, Glenda of White Deer; two sisters, Vivian Knuckles and husband, Gene, of Mt. Enterprise and Celia Spedale and husband, Sammy, of Hempstead; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Memorials may be made to the Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church, 600 South Colonial Drive, Cleburne, TX 76033.
