Perry J. Shelley Jr, 88, of Whitney, passed away on September 29, 2017, surrounded by loved ones, at the home of his beloved niece and nephew, Richard and Reta Zimmerman. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2017, at Bethlehem Cemetery with Pastor Greg Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Sunday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Perry was born on March 21, 1929, to the late James Perry and Mamie Ivy Shelley. He was a lifetime resident of Whitney and attended Whitney schools. On August 12, 1949, he married Jackie Shelley. The couple were married 62 years until her death on February 17, 2012.

Perry was a proud U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran. He retired from the State of Texas in 1991 where he was a Park Ranger at Lake Whitney State Park for 28 years. Perry loved his family and his many friends. After Jackie’s death, he moved to the beaches of Port Bolivar, Texas, where he could always be found in the shop making handcrafted wood art with his trusty dog, Little Man, constantly by his side.

Perry was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Whitney, International Order of Odd Fellows and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 522.

Also preceding him in death was his grandson, James Arnold, in 1989.

Survivors include his children, Sandra Sue Arnold of Cleburne, Mike Shelley and Amber of Port Bolivar; granddaughter, Tracey Lynne Cox and husband, Will, and great granddaughter, Sadey Cox, all of Vaughan, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
