R. D. Sullins, 86, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 in a Waco hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, November 1, at the funeral home.
R. D. was born January 20, 1925 in Italy, Texas to Raleigh Dewey and Fannie Lou (Bradford) Sullins. On October 12, 1944, he married Tippie Horne in Hillsboro. R. D. served his country in the United States Air Force. For 36 years, he worked for Lone Star Gas Company where he retired as manager of the Hillsboro office.
A faithful and devoted member of the First Baptist church in Hillsboro, R. D. was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class there, which he also taught for many years. He loved his family and church family very much. For a number of years, he also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved his God and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with all his heart.
R. D. was a member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge #196 and had recently received his 50 year pin.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Ara Ena Taylor and Esther Clemmer; and one brother, Johnnie Sullins.
Survivors include his wife, Tippie Sullins of Hillsboro; four children, Charles Sullins and wife, Paula, Brenda Fleming and husband, Mike, Sylvia Lake and husband, Martin, and Randy Sullins and wife, Gladys, all of Hillsboro; two sisters, Lois Pendley and husband, Joe of Fort Worth, and Imogene Jackson and husband, Weldon of Waco; eleven grandchildren, Chuck Sullins and wife, Suzie of North Carolina, Monya Fleming of Hillsboro, Stephanie Tinkey and husband, Derek of Hillsboro, Mikala Waggoner of Hillsboro, Eric Fleming and wife, Aleshia of Hillsboro, Rebecca Tomlinson and husband, Ira of Houston, Allison Patton and husband, James of Hillsboro, Amanda Brown and husband, Jeff of Virginia, Nicole Burkett and husband, David of Hillsboro, Sarah Camp and husband, Mike of Lancaster, and Clint Sullins and wife, Ashley of Abilene; 33 great grandchildren; and his faithful companion, Dah’lin.
