Rachel Kunkel

Rachel Kunkel, 81, of Bynum passed away Friday evening, November 23, 2018, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018, at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone with Pastor James Heiser and Pastor Anthony Oncken officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born July 13, 1937, in Hill County, she was the daughter of W. L. and Lillie Mae (Howard) McCool. On March 27, 1954, Rachel was united in marriage to Edwin Kunkel in Malone. A very faithful and active member of Salem Lutheran Church, she served her church as a Sunday school teacher and member of The Ladies Aid of which she was president for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts and was an avid Elvis Presley fan. Rachel loved being with her family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought much joy to her life.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Wayne Kunkel; and infant great-grandson, Corbin Campbell.

Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Edwin Kunkel of Bynum; daughters, Kay Watson and husband, Billy, and Deborah McCurlie and husband, Sandy, all of Bynum, and Amelia White and husband, Chris, of Arlington; daughter-in-law, Debbie Kunkel of Whitney; sisters, Velma Pelham of Hillsboro, Tassie Good of Oklahoma, and Pearl Ince of Whitney; grandchildren, Daniel Watson and wife, Kelli, Laura Grayson and husband, Clay, Katrina Campbell and husband, Steven, Jonathan Kunkel and wife, Dusty, Kristin Goins and husband, Paul, Aaron McCurlie and wife, Rachel, George McCurlie and wife, Reagan, and Jeremy Pena; great-grandchildren, Kinley, Corbin, Brazos, Jozi, Kailey, Clayton, Kassidy, Brayson, Rylee, and Ashlynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
