Rachel Gail Maffeo, 83, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, September 3, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021, at her son’s home in Cleburne, Texas.
Rachel was born October 4, 1937, in Somerville, Alabama, to Buck and Ethyl Johnson. At a young age, she moved with her family to Michigan. In 1965, she married John Edward Lewis and they were married for many years. Later in 2001, she married Ralph (Ray) Edward Maffeo from Suwanee, Georgia, where they lived until she moved back to Texas in 2015.
During her lifetime, Rachel worked various professions, the last being a medical assistant at Arlington Memorial Hospital. She was very talented and was great in crafting and woodworking.
Rachel especially loved her family and friends. The past year during her declining health, she spent many hours reading her Bible and listening to sermons and talk shows on TV. She loved to do for others any way she could. Rachel loved the Lord and believed as in Luke 23:43 “Truly, I say to you today you will be with me in Paradise”.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Ray and John; two brothers, LaVerne Johns and Curtis (Johnny) Johnson; and two children, Kim Johnson and Sherry Stricherz.
Survivors include her son, John Michael Lewis and wife, Melissa, of Cleburne; three granddaughters, Carly Stricherz, Casey Stricherz, and Courtney Stricherz and one great-granddaughter, Shelby Whitlow, all of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Bettye Lewis of Itasca; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
