Raegan Mckenzie Cook

Raegan McKenzie Cook entered the gates of heaven on March 7, 2021 in Hillsboro, TX at the age of 18 along with the love of her life, Hunter Germer.  Their loss has caused a shockwave of grief among her family, friends, and the surrounding communities.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13. 2021, at First Baptist Church in West with Rev. John Crowder officiating.  Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, at the church.  Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro are in charge of arrangements.  Facial masks and social distancing are encouraged.  The funeral service will be live streamed via Marshall & Marshall’s Facebook page.

She was born in Hillsboro, TX to Monty and Annette Cook on September 10, 2002 as the youngest sister to Morgan and Logan.

She found her heaven on earth with Hunter and their 3-month-old daughter, Lillian Rose, and was the happiest she had ever been.  As Lily’s mommy, she absolutely glowed and was the tenderest, sweetest, and most loving mom.  Her most precious moments were those spent quietly cuddling with Hunter and Lily.  She introduced Lily to her friends and family with undeniable pride. Her wish was that Lily would grow up knowing that she was adored by her parents and to teach her the love of Jesus Christ.

To say that Raegan was one of kind is the biggest understatement of all time.  She possessed a spirit, energy, and light that was felt the moment she entered the room and that will last a lifetime for all those who knew her.  Laughing until your face hurt and your belly ached was imminent when Raegan was around.  Her goofy faces, long and meandering stories (that often ended up going nowhere), and her impromptu, interpretive dances are just a few of the many antics she used to invoke laughter. Her love for Reba, George Jones, and Queen inspired performances in living rooms with renditions of Reba’s “Fancy” and Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”.  She truly had no ego and didn’t think twice about putting herself out there in ways that most people wouldn’t dream of.  Raegan did not sit on the sidelines; she participated with fervor.

Raegan represented the Love of Christ more perfectly than anyone on earth…she loved unconditionally and with her full being. She loved all those around her with a fierceness that made you feel as if you had a special place in her heart…and you did. EVERYONE was family to Raegan.  She had many surrogate “aunts and uncles”, “brothers and sisters”, “grannies and grandpas”, and “moms and dads”.  She didn’t just say “I love you”; she showed it by texting, calling, sending pictures, laughing, crying, hugging, sharing stories and memories, and forgiving.

Mature, intelligent, and wise beyond her years, Raegan graduated early from Abbott High School at the top of her class, while working and saving money to buy her own car and pay for college.  In high school Raegan was active in FFA, One Act Play, and took honors classes while maintaining an “A” average.  She worked at El Conquistador and Bath & Body Works in Hillsboro, was a volleyball referee for the UIL and TASO, was a full-time student at Hill College all while pregnant with Lily.  Even after becoming Lily’s mom, she attended online courses at Hill College and worked at “El Con” in Hillsboro. Her goal was to be a Physical Therapist working to rehabilitate youth after injuries. She didn’t wait for things to happen; Raegan made things happen.  She had goals for her life and unshakeable plans of how to get there, tackling every obstacle with confidence, maturity, and ease.  Her “Raeganisms” were tidbits of information or advice that always made you smile, oddly made more sense than they should have, and helped you realize the important things in life: God, love, and family.

Raegan will be missed terribly, but her legacy and spirit will remain with all those who loved her…and there are many!  We have all learned life lessons from Raegan:  dance like no one is watching, sing at the top of your lungs, act silly, be a positive force, forgive completely, hug often, give freely, take that chance, give it all you’ve got, love with your whole heart in words AND actions…but most of all ask yourself, “What Would Raegan Do?”

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Aubrey Cook; and four uncles, Charlie Nors, Dawin “Dino” Nors, David “Cowboy” Nors, and Bennie “Benji” Nors, Jr.

Raegan is survived by her daughter, Lillian “Lily” Rose Germer; mother, Annette Cook; father, Monty Cook; maternal grandparents, Bennie and Sheila Nors; paternal grandmother, Lanelle Bronstad; sisters, Morgan Cook and her daughter, Theia, and Logan Cook and her son, Kaymain; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
