Ralph "Binky" Toon, Sr

Ralph W. “Binky” Toon, Sr., 90, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Brandon Cemetery in Brandon with Rev. Danny Gilliam officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ralph was born November 27, 1920 in Malone to George Elbert and Johnnie Lee (Pope) Toon. He grew up and was raised in the Rienzi Community in Hill County, living most of his life in Brandon before moving to Hillsboro in 1991. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army as a technician with the 5th Grade 845th Engineers Battalion. He served in France, Naples, Italy, Africa, and Europe. On July 20, 1950 he married Marie Neil and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2002.

He was an avid quarter horse enthusiast. Ralph played catcher with the Hillsboro Eagles Baseball Team. He served on the Bynum ISD School Board and Brandon-Irene Water Board. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the VFW.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ralph Toon, Jr. on February 21, 1990; grandson, Jared Wade Hill on February 17, 2002; brother, Manington M. Toon; and two sisters, Glenn Ira Scott and Avonne Ward Frazier.

Survivors include his daughter, Vivian Williams and husband, Frank, Sr., of Hillsboro; brother, John Elbert Toon of Santa Anna, CA; two grandchildren, Angela Washington and husband, David, of Hillsboro and Frank Williams, Jr. of Bynum; one great-granddaughter, Miranda Washington of Hillsboro; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
